The Navy’s heraldic ensign incorporates the colours which are traditionally
associated with the institution – Azure-Argent – as well as the shield which is
present in the Coat of Arms, surrounded by the motto “Talant de bien faire” and
by the national battle cry “São Jorge”.
Quarterly, all Argent-Azure; first and second with bordure counter-changed.
In the centre of the quarters a four-point star quartered and counterquartered.
Over these, the Navy’s coat of arms, surrounded by a scroll Argent bearing two inscriptions
in capital letters, Elzevier style, separated by two anchors Sable.
The motto “TALANT DE BIEN FAIRE” surrounds the shield from side to side. Above
the shield stands the battle cry “SÃO JORGE”. Fringe, strands and trucks Azure-Argent.
Staff and spear Argent.
