​​Welcome aboard this celebration of one of the greatest feats of the modern world – the first circumnavigation around the globe.

​​Ferdinand Magellan’s feat, which is being noted five centuries later around the world, did not confine itself to the discovery of a passage between oceans, but to bringing peoples and cultures together.

He prepared his mission thoroughly, using the geography knowledge consolidated until then and benefiting from his studies and researches. 
Nevertheless, Ferdinand Magellan didn’t have only the Knowledge but also the Will: the will to travel beyond, not knowing barriers, but challenges, which he continued overcoming. Always! Until the last one…

500 years later, we are celebrating this feat from a Portuguese navigator.​

Comic Strip Magellan - Until the End of the World

The Circumnavigation by Ferdinand Magellan portrayed in a comic strip

The Portuguese version of the book Magellan, jusqu'au bout du monde (Magellan – Until the End of the World) will be released on October 1, at the Galliots Pavilion of the Maritime Museum. The texts from the book were written by Christian Clot, with illustrations by Bastien Orenge and Thomas Verget, in a joint edition by the Navy Cultural Commission and Gradiva.

In the book launch, the explorer Christian Clot will present the comic strip, originally published in French.  There will also be time for a small performance by the Navy Band, which will conclude the session.
The beginning of the session is scheduled for 5:30PM. The entrance is free, although limited to the capacity of the Galliots Pavilion.​


Visual Identity Contest

​​The Naval Academy will host the 12th edition of Conference on the Sea (Jornadas do Mar) on the theme “Ferdinand Magellan – the Ocean that binds us together”, in November of 2020. It’s within this context that the Contest on Visual Identity is announced.
