The fulfillment of the Navy's mission is based on a set of key processes,
responsible for the operational, scientific and cultural products, that is, the
Navy’s institutional product.
This includes military operations such as: combating piracy, embargo and
maritime interdiction missions, controlling the proliferation of weapons of
mass destruction or rescuing nationals from conflict areas; marine research and
rescue, fisheries inspection, support to the repression of illegal maritime
activities in close collaboration with other State agents, scientific research concerning
the project of extension of the Portuguese Continental Shelf and cultural
activities in museums, amongst others.
For the Navy to be able to evolve and maintain its relevance, it is
essential to promote continuous transformation in order to achieve a desired
future situation. This transformation is achieved through the strategic
management process.
