HISTORY
The first news known about the Alfeite relates to the donation of the
Almada territory to the English crusaders who assisted D. Afonso Henriques in
taking Lisbon. The properties constituting the Alfeite would be integrated into
this gift (1147).
The present Naval Base of Lisbon (BNL) had its origin in the Autonomous
Junta of the Arsenal of the Alfeite, to whom on June 8th, 1918, the
National Palace of Alfeite and the adjacent lands were delivered by the General
Directorate of Public Finance.
This Board was later replaced by the Intendance of the Arsenal of the
Alfeite, which was extinguished in 1938 and the Intendance of the Navy of the
Alfeite was created. The Intendance took over the bush and the buildings that
were not delivered to any other entity.
On December 3, 1958, the Naval Base of Lisbon was created by Decree-Law
No. 41,989 with the attributions of that Intendance.
