HYMN

The Navy’s hymn translates the noblest naval traditions.

The Navy’s hymn was approved by decree no. 155/93 of June 24th, by the Ministry of National Defense. It translates the noblest naval traditions at the service of Portugal. It was composed by Marcos Portugal (1762-1830), with lyrics by Midshipman Moreira Silva.

LYRICS:

" Inspired by dreams of victory.

 Audaciously and valorously we sail.

We head for the annals of history

 facing ol' Adamastor.

In the verge of the ultimate effort,

we demand a thousand ports of adventure

 toughly,

 bravely.

Taking our Motherland to the whole world

 And when the time

 will have to come

We will wait firmly, on the tidal wave…"

Lyrics by Moreira Silva and music by Marcos Portugal
