Tejo Class

NRP Tejo is a coastal patrol vessel. It performs missions of patrol and surveillance, control and supervision of maritime areas under the sovereignty, jurisdiction and national responsibility, search and rescue in the national maritime areas.

PatronTejo, Tagus in Latin, is one of the most extensive rivers of the Iberian Peninsula and the largest in Portuguese territory with a total length of 1100 kilometers.
It originates in Spain in the Albarracin Mountain at 1593 meters of altitude.

​​​​​MISSION AND EMPLOYMENT

​The coastal patrol vessels, as a means of a System of Forces, can be used outside of the normal area of operation although with inherent constraints. The normal area of operation encompasses the maritime spaces under national sovereignty, jurisdiction and responsibility with incident on the mainland coast and on the archipelago of Madeira. It participates on the national and international plan of cooperation, in a combined and joint action establishing the security and surveillance of maritime areas in the range of international agreements relating to the exploration of natural resources and its boundaries.​​​
