Assets
The Navy´s assets are based in the idea of balance, coherently sustained by capacity diversity, allowing it to face the multiple challenges that result from an unpredictable and very dynamic international environment. This way, the Navy’s assets aim to maintain a balance of capacities, avoiding an excessive specialization that would lead to the abandonment of valences essential to the affirmation of the national interests at sea.
Frigates
Ships with a displacement from 1,500 to 5,000 tons and length between 75 and 150 meters, equipped with anti-surface, anti-air and anti-submarine weaponry and are, by nature, oceanic escorts, although being ships of great capacity and versatility.

SUBMARINES
By acting with stealth, submarines are the only military asset capable of provoking inhibition in potential opponents. This is further enhanced by the characteristics of these naval assets, namely its great range and mobility, the ability to stay underwater for long periods in an operational area and the sophistication of its weapon systems.

SAILBOATS
The main mission of sailboats is to provide to the younger generations a larger and deeper contact with life at sea. They are also tasked with the representation of the Navy and country as direct support to the State´s diplomatic action. Portugal has kept the tradition of using large sailboats as school ships and sea training ships, as complement to the theoretical training ministered to the future Navy officers at the Naval Academy, as well as providing contact with life at sea to the civilian society.
