MISSION AND EMPLOYMENT
The NRP Zaire was built at the Mondego Naval Shipyards in Figueira da Foz. It was commissioned by the Portuguese Navy on December 22nd, 1971. It is the seventh of ten ships of the Cacine class.
Built for coastal patrol operations and for the rivers of Africa, it performed a set of missions such as maritime surveillance, contraband repression, search and rescue, sea pollution control and support to the population and civil organisms.
Despite the intense rate of operability and its long life, the NRP Zaire still sails, this time returning to Africa giving the capability of coastal surveillance to São Tome e Principe. This way it enriches its history and contributes to the effort of maritime security in the Guinea Gulf and dignifying Portugal at sea.
