ASSIGNMENTS
The
reduced acoustic, electromagnetic and thermal signature makes it one of the stealthiest
conventional submarines in the world, impossible to detect without resorting to
a high number of surface assets equipped with the latest sensors, manned by
highly trained operators and in favorable weather conditions. Since its
commissioning on the 17th of June of 2010, it has performed several
maritime area surveillance missions of national interest and participated in
several national, international and NATO exercises. The 1st Atlantic
crossing to the USA of a Portuguese submarine is also noteworthy.
